What Type Of ASTM A350 LF2 Flanges Do We Have?
Usually, the ASTM A350 LF2 Flanges are provided in a Normalised and Tempered form or a Quenched and Tempered state. Its defining characteristics are the moderate hardness and impact strength of the a350 grade lf2. As a result, a350 grade lf2 cl1 is widely employed in producing flanges and connections. In situations where corrosion resistance is not crucial, the a350 gr lf2 cl 1 is also utilized.
All ASTM a350 gr. lf2 class 1 cooled forgings must be annealed at the lowest value of 1100 °F. The SA 350 LF2 Class 1 should then be maintained at that temperature for at least 30 minutes.
SA 350 LF2 Class 1 vs. Class 2 Flanges: Which is Better?
The chemical makeup and mechanical characteristics of Low Temperature Carbon Steel Flanges Class 1 and Class 2 are identical. Class 1 or 2 in the ASME Codes' permissible stresses are equivalent. The lowest applicable temperature is the primary feature that sets Class 1 apart from Class 2. The minimum relevant values for LF2 Class 1 or Class 2 are -46°C and -18°C, respectively. The average Charpy V-notch tensile testing temperature is the minimum relevant temperature. The standard requirement for forged carbon steel or low alloy steel fittings for low-temperature applications is ASTM A350.
So class 2 is better as it has high mechanical properties.
General Information On Low-Temperature Carbon Steel Flanges
Due to their higher hardness, LTCS Flanges are typically more difficult to process than traditional austenitic stainless steel. But ASTM A350 LF2 RTJ Flanges have demonstrated good machining characteristics. Lean steel, like SA 350 LF2 CL1 and CL2 Flanges, typically provides a similar type of corrosion resistance. Still, thanks to its low molybdenum concentration, it performs better in oxidizing environments like nitric acid treatments.
